Okay ...so we have 10 peeps here and it's time for an introduction.

I moved downtown about a year and a half ago. I wish I'd done it a long time ago. Oh well, I'm making the best of it now. My place is on 7th Street, just East of Alameda, near the Greyhound station. I've got about 2100 sq ft with nice brick walls, wooden floor and high wooden ceiling.

I rent it out occasionally for all sorts of events, but they have to be interesting, not just a big party. Hope to see you soon.

Okay you losers, now it's something like 35 people here and not 1 person has introduced themselves. Bah humbug. Where are you? What do you do? Do you live in a lofty thing or out in BFE like Steve Samo?

Hi Paynie, O.K., so I live in BFE, in fact I live in the trees in Topanga. But since I'm a gemini gypsy,a big part of my life right now seems to happen in downtown and on the freeways getting there. I rehearse my aerial tissue act downtown frequently in my friends loft on 4th st. Like to have coffee on traction st. and go to way too many parties and stay up way too late in downtown. See you there, Laura Wyrd

Hi Paynie, I live in Santa Monica so also not a LA Loft local... but hey that area is really cool to visit and I love getting out of my comfort zone to visit friends and go to events around downtown.

I'll have to check out the coffee place next.

    Hi Paynie and all Lofties,

I'm in Playa del Rey, but I miss so much living in a loft like the one I had in Venice a couple years ago. I'm always looking for info on great lofts, just in case...

Just moved back...hangin' in Hollyweird with my daughter until I can find a place to call my own home. I like the idea of downtown more & more. Especialy since my partner just landed a kick ass gig down at the TransAmerica Bldg/Windows restaurant as a chef. Me? I dunno, but I'm sure I can find something to call a j-o-b downtown, yes? Also, are there anyplaces in downtown to live, that accept doglettes, include parking and don't cost a small fortune?

    Hi.

My name is Entropia, and I live in a loft on Santa Fe Ave (close to the 7th St. and Santa Fe Ave intersection). I've been here since Sept. 2003.

Hey, i'm greg. i moved into the pegasus building on 6th and flower in june. i absolutely loathed los angeles (coming from portland) until i moved downtown. the first day i was here i found myself contemplating rooting for the lakers. there is no other part of l.a that i can live other than downtown. the rest just seems like a giant offensive suburb to me.

what's up laura? i'm from portland, oregon actually, seattle originally, and southern cal is a massive change of climate, both phyically and people-wise. i moved down here five years ago and was hating it... that is of course till i moved downtown, and now i love it.

    Hi All,

I used to live at 5th and Spring, Music Building, 5th floor facing west. Really great loft, 1300sq, and the rats in the alley never bothered me, but then they evicted everyone, now its day use only. Oh well.

it's hard for me to say because i left when i was 13. when i go now it's definitely different to my memories of it. when given a choice i would choose portland over it in a heartbeat.

Hi Paynie... downtown rocks. Downtown people are helpful and friendly. it's a world of extremes, in the best of ways. the views in all directions are spectacular... it's all so high rez. Check out the gothic Tower Theater on the corner of 8th and B'way which is across the street from Clifton's Brookdale, the coolest cafeteria in LA. The city is now funding the illumination of all the classic theaters on Broadway this year. That's our haunt. We're nestled between the fashion and the jewelry marts: lot-0-cool places to eat and bike patrols. we love it here.

    Hey Loft Peeps,

I am living in Valley Village right now, but am on a hard core quest for a great downtown loft space. I've been hanging out at the brewery alot and have absolutely fallen in love with the idea of a live/work loft in downtown (or possibly atwater village).

    See ya'll at Artwalk!

hey there fellow downtowners and all those who love to come hang out in our big open fabulous urban dwellings.
my man & i live under the 4th street bridge on the boyle heights side ( i like to think of us as having riverside property)- we have 2200 square feet of cement floor and brick walls and tons '0 light.
Lot's of wonderful projects come out of our space including aerial tissue practice with my girl Laura, full avid and protools set up for editing and beautiful shooting space for still photography - we just finished our cyc and i'm well....psyched! plus lots of space to make a mess with paints, power tools, and enjoyabley toxic adhesives.
my man has been downtown for 13 years and i moved here from sf just over 2 years ago....and i love it! Due to the fact that our managers are assholes about parties and events in the building (and why do you live in a loft surrounded by razor wire if your uptight?)and they have the space right next to us...our space is for chillin' with friends and making lots of art instead of hosting huge events - but we like to go to them! So keep us posted!
    See you at the cafe....

OK ... almost a year later, I stumble across this post and decide to reply...

I live out in BFE in a drab, boring, disgustingly white-bread-good-schools-family-values town called Lakewood (near Long Beach) and try to spend as little time in my own town as possible. I started toying with the idea of getting a loft recently, after a friend of mine said she was looking for one. I'm not much for renting things though, so I would rather find one I could purchase....that may be unfeasible though!

Downtown LA seems to be the place to be (allthough downtown Long Beach has its good points too). I moved down here from Seattle a few years ago, and I'm lovin it.

      The Brewery.
      In a 2000sq.ft loft.
Beautifully decorated on the ceiling and top half of the walls by our mysterious fire.
But we have a bar downstairs, so life is ok,

    Hi Paynie:

Joined at Ernest's suggestion. I live nearby in Silverlake and am looking to buy a loft. If you or anyone else on the list know how
I can find a realtor specializing in the area, or if you have any
leads, it would be a big help. I'm from NY and think loft living is the way to go. I never thought I'd like living in this end of town as much as I do but I'm sold. Now all I have to do is buy.
Nice to meet you all. Please let me know if you have any ideas
how I can find something, and if you have any "good block/bad block" insights. I'd like a loft but don't want to step over people on the way in.

        Hi Paynie,

I think I've been to your loft. It sucks!

I also live downtown in a loft (Santa Fe & Olympic), and I wouldnt trade it for the world.. Maybe a bigger loft on a cleaner street though, with a whole foods nearby.... Living downtown is fantastic! I love being in a part of Los Angeles that most people in LA dont even know exists. Its like an elite club of people that know about the coffee shop on 1st. They have great tiger chai!

Hello Im Dylan I will need a loft soon.
Tacos Mexico bought the property i am leasing. Which used to be a car dealership. I thought I needed a new place for my Ops. but I guess I am safe for the duration of my 2 year lease. Whereupon I'm gonna need a new HQ. I need roll-up doors for driving in vehicles to work on in a climate controlled area.
If you guys see anything lemme know. I may move in prematurely. Im in a really visible spot and I actually get TOO MANY INQUIRIES. I kinda wanna be a little more clandestine.
  • Lofts for SALE?

    Wed, February 9, 2005 - 2:35 PM
Man, it is damn near impossible to find lofts that aren't either for rent or for sale for $700K+. What gives? There was one condo loft project with modestly-sized and -priced units and it was gobbled up before we even had a chance to take a breath. A small handful of new ones are coming up on the market soon, but I'm sure they'll all be mega mega luxury, totally slick and finished and a frickin fortune. I just want a space with NOTHING in it except electrical outlets and plumbing connections and maybe a bathroom I can mess with later on, but I also want to own it. What is the problem? It's so lame that these zillion-dollar condos are being sold as "artist" lofts or lofts for "creative people", etc. What a ploy. "Artists" aren't buying $900K lofts. Uh-uh, sorry.

Is there some secret source for this information? Almost every old bldg downtown is being renovated, will any of them be for people in the under $400K range who want to work on it themselves?

    Lame.
