Hey guys, myself and some friends of mine are looking to purchase a loft, I know there are rentals to be had, but can anyone direct me towards lofts that are for sale? We figure why pay rent when we can build equity...

I'm also interested in that sort of thing. Haven't found any info yet, but I just started looking. I know I'd rather have a 'vintage' loft, a real warehouse conversion with brick and all the ugliness, rather than one of these newly-constructed 'luxury' loft crappy things.

Amen. Im just going to be living with an ariel circus type who needs high ceilings. Other than that, I'm pretty open.

There's a whole bunch of nice lofts for sale/rent in Long Beach. You might check those out too.

Yeah, I've considered Long Beach. I like long beach, but its too damn far from L.A. If you're hosting parties, etc., you have a hard time getting L.A. people to drive that far south.

However you'll have all the Long Beach/OC people you can shake a stick at....

I bought an old Catholic convent just west of downtown several years ago.
It's gone up in value tremendously. I would highly recommend it if you can swing the down payment or better yet come up with the cash. If the property has some income that will help with getting a loan. My building was defunct and without income so no bank would loan on it so I had to come up with the cash.
Now it's worth 10 times what I paid for it. I converted most of it into rental units which brings in a good amount of income. I have yet to convert the chapel into my own private studio but that's on my list of projects for 2005.
If you need any help figuring out the value of a piece of property I have access to Chicago Title info records. I'm thinking about getting another building myself as an investment.

I found a place for sale that was recomending you turn it into lofts. It is some old furniture store under one of the metrolink stops near Chinatown under the temple looking trainstop. This is an old brick building. I think it is on Main St. or right near were Alameda meets main or Spring.

I am interested in buying a loft as well. I have a pretty reasonable price range, but like most everyone else here, I don't want one of those super fancy new lofts where everything is build already. :)

Here is an idea, that may have been put out there before (I'm new to this tribe):

What if several of us who are interested get in on buying a building? I would be game to do that, and I know some people in real estate who could probably help work out the legal details....

      Hmm... just my $.02
